The Arcola Writers’ Group aims to provide an outlet for talented writers to have their work developed in a ‘workshop’ environment.  We provide a nurturing, creative environment in which to explore your idea and realise its greatest potential.

We have been running this group for a few years now, with the belief that Dalston has some brilliant voices waiting to be heard.  Writers have their work read and critiqued as part of a group over a period of months (featuring studies of classic texts and one-on-one critiques), building up to a reading here at the Arcola Theatre. 

The aim, ultimately, is to create an ongoing scheme that can workshop new work at various stages of development.  We believe that writers require talent, diligence, imagination and solitude first; they then require the company of fellow writers, actors and directors who share the same ethic of ensemble creation. Of course, such a project requires funding, and while we are grateful for the funding we have had in the past, we are currently seeking new investment to realise the goal of a more permanent furnace of new work.
